CVS Health and Cigna have announced a new partnership, Cigna Health Works, which aims to seamlessly integrate Cigna health benefits with CVS Health pharmacy and clinic services, according to a recent press release.
“This new level of collaboration with Cigna is a part of the growing trend toward consumer-directed care,” Helena Foulkes, president of CVS Pharmacy, said in a press release. “By providing information and cues for CVS customers and patients to help them get the most from their Cigna-administered health benefits, we also help them improve their health and reduce their health care costs in a way that’s easy and convenient.”
The partnership will combine provide easier access at CVS pharmacies and clinics for patients covered by Cigna. Patients will receive number of benefits, including personalized pharmacy support through the use of Health Tag Messages—instructions on prescription bags that advise patients of pertinent additional services offered by Cigna and CVS at no cost. The program will also provide patients with some discounts for preventive care and screening at CVS Minute Clinics, as well as diagnosis and treatment of some common conditions.
Cigna Health Works members will also receive a 20% discount on over-the-counter pharmacy products purchased at CVS Pharmacies. Additionally, Cigna is offering expanded access to their automatic refill program which aims to improve adherence.
“Cigna Health Works flips the traditional health care experience on its head to help make health benefits more effective, affordable and user-friendly,” Michele Paige, vice president and general manager of Cigna Onsite Health, said in a press release. “This new model is based on how the customer wants to consume health care—it’s about creating value and a new way for health care consumers to get more from their health plan, by ensuring that we are there for them at the places they prefer to go for convenient care.”
